Friday Favorites

I am not very good at this blogging business.  But I vow to get better!  It will  help keep me accountable.  When I post, I feel like running.  It gets me excited to get out the door, so I have something to put in my weekly recap!  (Whatever works, right?!)

In saying that, I am going to try and dedicate blog posts each week to something in particular.  One that I have noticed on many blogs is about favorite things. So, on Fridays I will now post a couple of my favorite things.

This week:

  • My garmin.
I better start this off with something running related!  I own the Forerunner 210.  While it bugs me trying to upload my runs sometimes, I am in love with it.  I love tracking all of my runs.  I am trying to get outside, run, and not focus on pace, so when I do that, I still wear my watch but place tape over the display so I just run by feel.  Though I love getting back home and syncing it up and seeing how fast/slow I was compared with how I felt!  As much as I love this watch, it is an older model and I can’t wait until I can afford to upgrade – dreaming of the Fenix 3!
  • Yorkshire Tea.
Oh. My. Gosh.  Wow.  I love this tea.  Now, I am Australian, brought up by English parents (I’m pretty sure my dad has tea running through his v
eins by the amount he drinks)  and I love a good cuppa.  But this one tops them all. I found out about it on my recent trip to the England.  It was in the first hotel room I stayed in, and I thought it wasn’t going to be very good but was I wrong!  I definitely did not bring enough of it back.  (And Gold is definitely better than the regular!)

  • Saucony Kinvara
Let’s also finish off the first of my Friday Favorites with a running item.  I have tried plenty of shoes, but I keep going back to Saucony Kinvaras.  I have versions 4, 5 and 6. I will definitely go out and get the 7’s for this years races.  They are lightweight, comfy, and make your run fast!  I’ve never had major problems with any shoe, so I’m not sure what keeps drawing me back to the Kinvara over other shoes.  I have run 5ks to marathons in them.  I think it’s safe to say – it’s true love.

What are some of your favorite things?  I’m always looking to try new stuff!

Fortnightly overview (Feb 8th -21st)

I find it so hard to keep up on everything when I am away.  And I have been away!  First to Washington (State, that is) and then down to California.  Then over to England!  And I have not been posting.  That’s also because I got pretty sick, and didn’t run much at all.

In the last two weeks I have only run 3 times, and that includes today.

I did snowboard a lot.  I had a fantastic time, even though I was under the weather.  I bought pretty new shoes, and tried them out for a 4 mile easy run.

Then I went to England for the weekend, and didn’t run at all.  But I walked a whole lot around London!

Why did we decided to go to England?  My husband was watching an English Premier League match on TV in California.  He said that he would love to go to one.  I told him, if we go to one it has to be Everton.  He looked online, and saw they were playing at home and said, let’s do this.  Let’s fly into London, rent a car, and drive up to Liverpool to see them play.  So we did!

We saw Everton play.  They lost.  Disappoint, for sure – but it was a great game and they should have won!

I’m now back in Hawaii.  I ran 10 miles on Saturday, then 3.5 on Sunday.  And that gets us to the end of the two weeks.  Not much running, but a whole lot of fun!
Total weekly fortnightly miles: 17.5

Weekly recap (Feb 1st – Feb 7th)

So this last week has been pretty bad.  I have not run once, I have been pretty sick with a cold and cough. But, I did manage to get up to the snow and go snowboarding 4 days this week! I wasn’t sure I should even recap this week, but I may as well – and at least I did a little bit of exercise! (I just wish I could run as fast as I can snowboard!)

Rest day (attempt to get over cold)

Snowboarding (all hopes of getting over cold are out of the window)

Rest (trying to finally get over this cold)

Weekly miles: 0

a week of being sick and snowboarding

I have been feeling really under the weather.  I have had a cold/flu thing for just over a week.  I ran my long run of 10 miles last Sunday, and I probably shouldn’t have even done that.  I haven’t run since then.

However, I have been skiing all week.  I’m in California, so close to Tahoe, and the snow has been so good that I’ve just had to go up.  Well, I say skiing, but I snowboard.  And it’s been amazing!!

The last time I went snowboarding was 3 years ago.  I remember snowboarding down long runs and my quads burning.  I would even have to stop a few times at the end of the day to rest, before I could make it down the mountain.  Now, my legs don’t hurt at all! I don’t know if it’s from running or doing other exercises, but whatever the reason it shows just how much my quads have built up strength.  I am excited about this.  It shows that I am getting stronger. And this is going to push me to continue not only to run, but to keep up on plyometric exercises.

I have to say, I am excited that tomorrow is Saturday.  That means I get to rest and try to fully recover from this cold and get 100% so I can start running again!
